Go big or…stay home. That’s right, the Dallas Mavericks need to win Game 4 of the Western Conference final to avoid being swept by the Golden State Warriors. For the Warriors it would be the third sweep in the WCF since 2015 as they swept the San Antonio Spurs in 2017 and the Portland Trail Blazers in 2019.
After an embarrassing loss in Game 1 (25 points), the Mavs put up a better fight in Game 2 and Game 3, losing both by nine points. Luka Doncic led all scorers in Game 3 with 40 points and got a lot of help from Spencer Dinwiddie (26) and Jalen Brunson (20) but it wasn’t enough.
Five Golden State’s players scored 10+ points. Steph Curry led the pack with 31. Curry added 12 assists, while Kevin Looney dominated the boards and finished with 12 rebounds.
According to the odds board, Dallas comes in as the NBA betting favorite to win Game 4 by one point. After all, the Mavericks own a 34-14 when playing at American Airlines Center. Plus, they’re 4-1 against the spread in their last five games played on a Tuesday.
As for the visitors, they own a 6-4 record in Game 4 when up 3-0. Most recently, they lost to the Denver Nuggets (first-round). The thing is that sealing the deal tonight would give Golden State plenty of time to recover and prepare for the NBA Finals. The Eastern Conference final between the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics is 2-2.
The total for Game 4 is set at 215½ points. Keep in mind that the total went over in eight of the last 10 meetings between the two when playing in Dallas. If Doncic and Curry remain on fire you can expect that trend to continue.
There are no updates regarding injuries. Tim Hardaway Jr. remains out for Dallas, while Gary Payton II, Andre Iguodala and James Wiseman remain out for Golden State.
If necessary, Game 5 is scheduled for Thursday, May 26 at Chase Center.
