Game Preview

The Memphis Grizzlies return home on brink of elimination as the Golden State Warriors own a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference Semifinals. As if that wasn’t enough, the coaching staff confirmed that Ja Morant (knee) is doubtful to return this postseason.

Morant missed Game 4, but the Grizzlies still put up a good fight. The Warriors needed a fourth-quarter rally to win 101-98. Steph Curry led the home side with 32 points and eight assists. He was followed by Andrew Wiggins with 17 points, while Jordan Poole added 14 from the bench.

Jaren Jackson Jr. led Memphis’ efforts with 21 points. Tyus Jones, who took Morant’s spot, finished with 19 points and five assists.

“It’s a tough pill to swallow. It felt like we were in a good position. It felt like we put ourselves in a good position to win a ballgame and things didn’t go our way down the stretch,” Jones said after the game.

He’s not wrong. Memphis won the first and third quarter, both by four points. They lost the second by only one point. The problem was the fourth quarter, which they lost by 10 points. The good news for the Grizzlies was that center Steven Adams returned to the starting lineup and played 27 minutes. He contributed 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Adams is expected to repeat that performance in Game 6, scheduled for tonight at FedExForum, where Memphis owns a 33-13 record. Due to Morant’s absence, Golden State is the NBA betting favorite by four points (-110). Nevertheless, keep in mind that the Warriors are 0-5 against the spread when playing on the road against the Grizzlies.

The Warriors won Game 1 in Memphis by one point (117-116), while the Grizzlies won Game 2 by five (106-101). In other words, expect another close battle. The total for Game 5 is set at 218½ points.

Besides Morant, Santi Aldama and Killian Tillie remain out for the home side. On the other hand, the visitors will be without Gary Payton II, Andre Iguodala and James Wiseman.
