After a disappointing season, the Lakers look to turn things around this Fall. Just a year ago, Los Angeles were seen as a true contender to win the 2022 NBA Finals. All-Stars Lebron James and Anthony Davis were provided big help with the signing of the 2017 MVP, Russell Westbrook. However, what seemed to be a promising season turned out to be anything but that; after winning only 31 of their first 72 games, the Lakers lost 8 straight games, eliminating any chance of reaching the 10th seed and competing in the playoffs.
Due to last year’s disappointment, the Lakers had to look strong in the offseason. The centerpiece of LA’s offseason has been Lonnie Walker IV, that’s been added to the Lakers’ young core of players like Austin Reaves, Talen Horton-Tucker, and Kendrick Nunn. The Lakers also inked Juan Toscano-Anderson, Scottie Pippen Jr, Max Christie, and Cole Swider, alongside prospects Thomas Bryant, Troy Brown Jr and Damian Jones.
NBA Champions, Golden State Warriors, were faced with tough decisions just two weeks after winning the NBA title. Free agency of important team members Gary Payton II, Otto Porter and Nemanja Bjelica, made the team target Donte DiVincenzo and JaMychal Green to take their place in the roster. Also, bench locker room figures Damion Lee and Juan Toscano-Anderson departed, and rookies Patrick Baldwin Jr and Ryan Rollins arrived at the team to take their place. It’s definitely been a discreet offseason for the Dubs, at least in the short term, however, there seems to be long term wins in the making of how much money the team is saving.
