Tuesday Western Conference clash will feature an encounter between the New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers’ three-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday as they were defeated 112-108 by the New York Knicks. In the meantime, the Pelicans have won two of their last three games, including a 127-110 victory over Portland on March 12. LeBron James and Zion Williamson are still unavailable.
The Lakers are currently in a strong position to make a run into the Western Conference play-in game, so Los Angeles is heating up just in time. Since the All-Star break, Los Angeles has given up the eighth-fewest points, partly due to the purchases they made at the trade deadline.
Jared Vanderbilt and D’Angelo Russell have been the key drivers of those deadline transactions. Vanderbilt has been a significant improvement for the Lakers’ defense even if he has only averaged 7.9 PPG and 7.6 RPG since being acquired by them. While his 1.6 thefts per game have undoubtedly been helpful, it is his contributions that go unrecognized that have made this club so successful.
