The Memphis Grizzlies will try to bounce back from a loss at Washington when they travel to New Orleans on Tuesday night for a primetime matchup. Memphis had won five games in a six-game stretch before losing to Washington without its best player on Sunday. New Orleans has won two of its last three games, including a 119-106 win against Houston on Saturday.
Washington was unable to keep a hot streak going on Sunday, which could be attributed to their best player missing the game. Star guard Ja Morant was out with an ankle injury and is a game-time decision on Tuesday night.
Morant plays a huge role in the Memphis game plan, averaging 28.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. He also paces a fast break offense that ranks second in the NBA with 16.0 of those points per contest.
He also currently ranks ninth in the league in scoring. He is not the only player on the roster dealing with an injury though, as power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. and shooting guard Desmond Bane are both listed as game-time decisions as well. Bane is the second-leading scorer.
On the other side, New Orleans has high hopes for this season, but it has yet to find a consistent level so far. The Pelicans have gone 7-6 through their first 13 games, winning two of their last three. They beat Chicago as 2-point road favorites last week before losing to Portland as 10-point home favorites in a big upset.
New Orleans bounced back with a decisive win over Houston on Saturday. The Pelicans went on a 13-0 run down the stretch after blowing an 18-point lead in the second half. They were led by star Zion Williamson, who scored 26 points in the win.
The Pelicans have one of the league’s top offenses, ranked sixth in points per game at 116.5. They are facing a Memphis defense that is No. 16. New Orleans ranks second in the Western Conference in rebounding, with Jonas Valanciunas pulling down 10.1 per game.
