The race for a playoff spot in the Western Conference is as open as it’s ever been for the first time in many years! The Phoenix Suns were one of the favorites to win the championship going into the postseason, and although it doesn’t seem like it right now, they were. Not only were the Suns already a strong competitor before the all-time great Kevin Durant was acquired, but now that the 13-time All-Star suddenly calls Phoenix his home, a big part of the NBA media now believes the west will run through the desert.

No team in the West genuinely wants to compete against the champions. At first glance, the Warriors avoided the play-in tournament by ending the season with a 44-38 record overall, while dealing with injuries to their key players.

The Los Angeles Lakers entered the postseason as a play-in team with no guarantee of making the playoffs. They have a low seed, yet many still consider them to be strong contenders.
