It’s an interconference battle on the hardwood as a pair of teams looking to rebound from a tough weekend meet in the Beehive State. The New York Knicks are on the road as they travel to face the Utah Jazz Tuesday night. New York comes off a 145-135 home loss to Oklahoma City, while Utah was defeated 105-98 against Philadelphia on Sunday.
New York had a big offensive showing in their last game at home against the Thunder but they were horrific defensively, leading to a 10-point home defeat. The Knicks entered Monday night 6-7 and stood fourth in the Atlantic Division, four games behind the Celtics for the top spot. Against Oklahoma City, New York opened the game hot, leading 48-36 after the opening quarter, but that was the high-water mark for them.
Utah dropped their second straight game as they were beaten on the east coast in both, losing to Washington and Philadelphia over the weekend. The Jazz fell to 10-5 on the season and entered Monday night tied with Denver and Portland for the top spot in the division race. Against Philadelphia, the Jazz was unable to contain Joel Embiid, who single handedly carried the 76ers to a victory in the contest.
Ultimately, Utah is playing their third game in four nights in their third different city. The Knicks find themselves in the middle game of a similar situation as they’ll play the second game of a back-to-back in the Mile-High City against the Nuggets Wednesday night.
New York saw their defense completely come apart as they were sliced and diced by the Thunder in their previous contest. The Knicks now have to contend with a Utah team that is very deep in the wing department, which makes for tough matchups defensively. Utah is unbeaten at home and that should help them heading into this game.
