Oklahoma City Thunder vs Houston Rockets: Preview & Analysis 02/01/2023

Game Preview

This Wednesday night, the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder will be taking a trip to Houston to face off the Rockets at the Toyota Center. Although they had a four-game winning streak, Oklahoma City has slumped to a 24-26 record, losing 2-3 since.

In the Western Conference, the Thunder are currently in 11th position. In his two years as the Thunder’s head coach, Mark Daigneault has never led Oklahoma City to more than 24 victories.

This season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has emerged as a major contributor, leading the club in scoring (30.9) and steals (1.7) per game. When extrapolated over a full season, Gilgeous-scoring Alexander’s total would surpass anything he’s done before. The loss of Chet Holmgren for the season in August was a major blow to Oklahoma City’s rebuilding efforts.

With virtually nothing going right, Houston has limped to a 12-38 record this season. In the Western Conference, the Rockets have the worst record. Houston’s record over their last 20 contests now reads 3-17, though its two-game losing streak was broken in their most recent game, a 117-114 victory over Detroit.

Let’s check the latest picks, NBA news, stats and NBA expert picks for Thunder vs Rockets. We’ve plenty of NBA predictions for you to consider.

Jalen Green, the second overall pick in 2021, is out with a calf injury despite leading the team in scoring with 21.7 points per game, up by four points from his rookie year. Kevin Porter Jr. averages 5.6 assists per game and 19.2 points per contest, all of which are team highs. The fourth-year pro would set a new career high in points with 19.2 over a complete season.

The Thunder need to win games like these if they want to make a serious playoff push. Fortunately for them, they have to play a weaker squad that may be missing key players due to injuries. The fact that Houston might be without its two greatest players, Green and Alperen, is exacerbated by the presence of OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey.
