Game Preview

The Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat had no trouble fulfilling their role as NBA betting favorites in the first-round of the Playoffs. Philadelphia eliminated the Toronto Raptors 4-2, while Miami took care of business against the Atlanta Hawks 4-1.

Now, the Sixers will visit FTX Arena on Monday night for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. They’ll do it without Joel Embiid, who’s dealing with a torn ligament in his right thumb, a concussion and an orbital fracture. That’s right, things aren’t looking good for the big fella, who’s not expected to return until Game 3/4.

So, what’s the plan? Well, a combination between DeAndre Jordan, Paul Reed and Charles Bassey. It won’t be easy, but the Sixers managed to win six games without Embiid during the regular season.

As for the Heat, veteran Kyle Lowry (hamstring) won’t be available, but Jimmy Butler (knee) and Tyler Herro (non-COVID illness) are expected to play. Butler missed Game 5 against the Hawks.

“It’s all right. I know it’ll be ready to hold up come Monday. The time off has been great for me and so many other guys that are nicked up,” Butler said. That’s great news for Miami because Butler is averaging 30.5 points per game.

As expected, Miami dominates the NBA odds. The Heat, 32-12 at FTX Arena, are favorites by 7½ points. They own a 43-21 record when playing as the favorites. However, the Sixers are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games.

“If I’m going into a fight, I’d rather hit than be hit. So, I’m not going in thinking it’s going to be any less physical. I’m going in thinking it’s going to be a brawl. Once you get closer and closer to the championship, that’s really what it comes down to,” Philadelphia’s Georges Niang said.

The regular season series between these two ended 2-2. The total went under in three of those games.
