Game Preview

Time to face it. Things don’t look good for the Philadelphia 76ers. Especially with Joel Embiid still out due to an orbital fracture and concussion. In Game 1, his absence translated into the Miami Heat outrebounding the Sixers 47-37. Also, Bam Adebayo dominated the paint and finished with 24 points, leading Miami, alongside Tyler Herro (25 points), to a 106-92 victory.

Jimmy Butler, who was questionable, did play and added 15 points and nine rebounds. Last but not least, Gabe Vincent finished with 10 points. He took Kyle Lowry’s (hamstring) place in the starting lineup.

As for the 76ers, it’s time for James Harden to wake up. The Beard has been held to under 25 points in 11 straight playoff games. We’re talking about a player that used to score 30 like it was nothing. Philly needs him.

Meanwhile, Tobias Harris (27 points in Game 1) and Tyrese Maxey (19 points in Game 1) have been leading the way. The thing is that neither is a natural born leader.

For head coach Doc Rivers, it’s actually very simple: “We’re working with a small margin for error, so we can’t give a team 13 extra shots on the road without Joel and think we’re going to win a game,” he said.

He’s not wrong, the 76ers need to do a better job on both sides of the court to keep hope alive. Especially DeAndre Jordan, who’s replacing Embiid in the starting lineup. Maybe it’s also time for Rives to give veteran Paul Millsap more minutes.

Game 2, also at FTX Arena, has the Heat as the NBA betting favorites by eight points (-110). Miami owns a 33-12 record when playing at home. Plus, they’re 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games.

Keep in mind that the total has gone under in five of the last six meetings between these two. This time, it’s set at 207½ points.
