Phoenix Suns vs Los Angeles Clippers: Preview & Analysis 12/15/2022

Game Preview

We have a very exciting match in our hands as the Phoenix Suns face off against the Los Angeles Clippers in a Pacific Division showdown at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The Suns and Clippers are locking horns for the second time this 2022-23 season, with Phoenix taking down LA 112-95 in a very convincing manner as the favorites back on October 23.

Surprisingly enough, the Phoenix Suns are currently on a five-game losing streak following a 111-97 loss to the Houston Rockets on Tuesday. Both Deandre Ayton and Cameron Payne had to leave the game due to injuries, while Devin Booker sat out his second game in a row.

Against the Rockets, the Suns trailed wire-to-wire, making a lowly 32.0% of their field goals and just 25.5% of their 3-pointers at 13-for-51. Chris Paul had a somewhat decent game, picking up 16 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. Meanwhile, Mikal Bridges scored 18 points of his own on an unfortunate 4-for-24 shooting from the field.

After giving away at least 125 points in four straight games, Phoenix held Houston to just 111 points. That said, with Devin Booker on the sidelines, their offense heavily struggled to score, and that was against one of the worst defenses in the league. Even though they lost against the Rockets, the Suns still own one of the highest offensive ratings in the NBA at 116.6 points per 100 possessions.

Meanwhile, last Monday the Clippers dominated the Boston Celtics 113-93 as the underdogs. They went 10-for-25 from the three-pointer line and managed to outrebound the Celtics 46-36 while still holding them to just 43.4% shooting from the field.

Kawhi Leonard has looked great throughout the entire season, and he just enjoyed his best game of the season, picking up 25 points against the Celtics while also having 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Paul George was next to him, scoring 26 points and 6 rebounds, while Marcus Morris contributed 13 points of his own on 6-for-8.
