The Texas Longhorns defeated Louisville 81-80 on Sunday night after a back-and-forth contest that featured 21 advantage changes and 14 ties. As time ran down for the 21st and last advantage change of the game, Max Abmas put the Longhorns on top of the standings with a fall away jumper. With only 7 seconds remaining in the match, the Longhorns forced a shot clock violation from the Cardinals, setting them up for victory. Texas was paced by a career-high 27 points by Kadin Shedrick, while Abmas scored just 14. Max Abmas is the top scorer on an individual basis, averaging 14.5 points each game. He is joined in the backcourt by Tyrese Hunter, who leads the club in assists per game while averaging 12.0 points per game. Dillon Mitchell leads the club in rebounds with 8.5 per game and scores 9.3 points down low.
The Connecticut Huskies defeated Indiana 77-57 on Sunday afternoon to open the Empire Classic, moving them to 4-0 on the year. As they look at defending their National Title this campaign, the Huskies have now defeated every team by a margin of double digits with the victory. On Sunday, the Huskies overcame a 7-point deficit at halftime to win by 20 points, paced by Tristen Newton’s 23 points as well as 11 rebounds. 6 assists were also provided by Newton in the lopsided victory. Tristen Newton has been Connecticut’s leading producer on an individual basis. With club highs in scoring with 17.2 points per game, rebounds with 8.2 rebounds per match, assists with 5.0 assists per contest, and steals with 2.2 steals per game, thus far this season, the guard is on a roll. The top forward has been Alex Karaban, who averages 16.0 points per game.
