It’s Wednesday, it’s the middle of the week and a new year is about to begin. But 2022 isn’t over yet and these two college basketball teams know it. The Illinois State Redbirds take on the UIC Flames at Credit Union 1 Arena at 20:00 EST.
The Redbirds are coming off a win over Chicago State 66-52. While the Flames failed to pick up their fourth straight win, losing to Northwestern 92-54.
The Flames have not had the best season. A bit irregular in my opinion. They have managed to get streaks of up to 3 wins on 2 occasions but no more. The guy in charge of ruining one of these streaks was Northwestern last Tuesday, where they dominated easily.
The offense was led by Toby Okani with 12 points in the loss and Jace Carter with 6 rebounds. The offense has to improve if they want to penetrate the Redbirds.
Illinois State did not give much hope when the season started, losing several games. But starting in December they began to improve their performance, getting a streak of three consecutive victories, which was then ruined by Ball State last Saturday. But they managed to recover by beating Chicago State 66-52.
The offense was led by Luke Kasubke with 14 points, Seneca Knight with 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
Illinois has a good offense, good shooting percentages and a good amount of rebounds per game.
The Redbirds are a more experienced team but are having serious turnover problems and are facing a good defense. They have not been performing well away from home lately and the Flames have been improving their performance little by little. I’m going with the Flames on this one.
