Game Preview

Tonight we have an interesting NCAAB matchup between the Fighting Illini of Illinois and the Longhorns of the University of Texas. Illinois is currently ranked number 17 while Texas is ranked number 2. While Texas is undefeated Illinois comes in with a 6-2 record, with those two losses coming against Maryland and Virginia.

Longhorns fans are sure to be surprised to see that not only is the soccer team talented, but so is the basketball team. The Longhorns are undefeated with a 6-0 record this season. The Longhorns defense is playing very well. In their last outing against Creighton they were held to just 40% shooting overall. The offense was led by Marcus Carr scoring 19 points. The offense is shooting 49% from the field and 29% from three-point range. But the icing on the cake is the defense, which is holding opposing teams to under 36% shooting from the field and under 23% from long distance. If they beat Illinois they could add their third win over Top 25 opponents.

On the other hand, Illinois will be looking to bounce back after their loss to Maryland on Friday night. This was their second loss of the season. In this game Terrance Shannon Jr supported the team with 19 points, Coleman Hawkins with 16 and RJ Melendez with another 13. Despite the loss they remained focused and optimistic. “I loved our defense. We held them to 35% in the second half, shooting 25% from the line.” said the Illinois coach.

It will certainly be a very interesting game to watch. We will witness how the Longhorns try to stop a powerful opponent that shoots well from long distance. I think this will be their toughest game. On the other hand, the Illini will have to take advantage of the space to make their shots and watch out for rebounds.
