The Lafayette Leopards and the Penn State Nittany Lions will face off against each other on Friday for some college basketball action at Bryce Jordan Center. Lafayette is holding a disappointing 1-5 record this year and is coming fresh off a loss to Penn. Meanwhile, Penn State is sitting at 5-1 on the year.
Lafayette hasn’t had the best performance coming out of the gate this year, being defeated in four straight games. The Leopards picked up a loss against Miami-FL, St. John’s, Saint Joseph’s and UMBC in their very first quartet, though they managed to secure a 55-50 win over Central CT State.
In their encounter versus Penn on Tuesday, the Leopards fell back into the losing ways. Lafayette did manage to force an overtime, though they ultimately lost 74-68 in a disappointing manner. Leo O’Boyle scored 16 points, while Jon Brantley had 13 points of his own.
Now looking at the Penn State team, they are coming in the opposite form of Lafayette as they are sitting on a four-game win streak over their first quartet this year. Penn State took down Winthrop, Loyola MD, Butler and Furman in quick succession, before being taken down by Virginia Tech last Friday.
On Sunday, against Colorado State, Penn State took a 33-21 advantage hedging into the second half. The Lions kept the pace from there and closed it up with a 68-56 win. Seth Lundy scored 17 points for Penn State, while Jalen Pickett put up 16 points with 11 boards.
Penn State did manage to pick up a solid win over a decent-looking Colorado State team in their last game. They shot 41.8 percent in that one but did lose in the rebounding battle 42-35.
Meanwhile, it’s been a tough run through six games so far Lafayette. The Leopards haven’t gone past 68 points yet this year and most likely won’t in this one either. The Penn State Nittany Lions are definitely the favorites heading into this game..
