This Wednesday, December 7, we will be treated to a matchup in Happy Valley as the Michigan State Spartans travel to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions. Both teams are coming off a loss in their last game, so both will be looking to avoid turning this into a losing streak. The game is scheduled for 6:30 PM EST.
The Spartans are coming off a 70-63 loss to Northwestern in their season opener. The offense was led by A.J. Hoggard, who contributed 12 points, six rebounds and eight assists. He was followed by Mady Sissoko with 12 points and Joey Hauser with 10 points and eight rebounds. The Spartans have had a hard time breaking through Northwestern’s defense and have had a lot of trouble protecting the ball. The Penn State Nittany Lions, meanwhile, come in with a 6-2 record. Those losses include a loss to Clemson in the ACC/Big Ten Men’s Basketball Challenge. It was a heart-stopping game full of emotions. Penn State came up just short of a comeback, but ended up falling 101-94. Camren Wynter led the offense with 26 points, paced by Jaden Pickett with another 23 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and Seth Lundy with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
The Nittany Lions are averaging 77 points per game, shooting 47% from the field and 40% from downtown. Defensively, they are holding their opponents to under 40% shooting from the field and 30% on three-pointers.
The Nittany Lions have a decent offense, shooting above average and capable of hitting threes. On the other hand the Spartans haven’t shown what they are made of yet, will they be able to take advantage of some of Penn State’s weaknesses?
