Michigan vs North Carolina: Picks & Preview 12/21/2022

Game Preview

The Spectrum Center will be the site where the Michigan Wolverines will take on the Tar Heels in another college basketball showdown. The game is scheduled for 7:00 PM EST.

Both teams are coming off wins in their most recent games, with the Wolverines edging the Lipscomb Bisons 83-75 and the Tar Heels defeating the Ohio Buckeyes 89-84.

North Carolina got off to a very good start by reeling off five straight wins until Iowa State put an end to the streak. This led to a 4 game losing streak including an exciting game against Alabama where the loss came in OT 103-101. They were able to bounce back by beating Georgia Tech and started a new winning streak. The Tar Heels offense is led by Caleb Love with 18 points per game and 4 rebounds, followed by Armando Bacot with 17 points and R.J. Davis with another 15.7. Unfortunately the defense is not up to par with their offense and this could cost them the game.

On the other hand, the Wolverines have not done badly either, this season. They started off well with a three-game winning streak before falling to Arizona 87-62. They will come into this game after beating Lipscomb and will look to expand their winning streak to three. The offense is led by Hunter Dickinson with 19 points per game and an amazing 8 rebounds. He is joined by Jett Howard and Kobe Bufkin who are also getting double digits. The defense is having trouble keeping their opponents away from the arc.

I think this will be a close game, both teams are having defensive problems, so this will be an offensive war. Both teams have shooters in double figures although I would lean more towards North Carolina who has managed to get a longer winning streak in the season facing stronger opponents.
