North Carolina knocked off a No. 1 seed and defending champion in Baylor in the Round of 32. The game went to overtime and was riveting as the Bears overcame a 25-point deficit before finally falling to the Tar Heels.
Mick Cronin and the Bruins have won 27 games and that is the most since the 2016-17 team won 31 games. The Bruins are looking to go to the Final Four for the second straight season. Last year they went from the First Four to the Final Four.
This is the third postseason meeting between the schools. They played in 1968 and ’89. In ‘68, the Bruins downed the Tar Heels by 23 behind Lew Alcindor. In 1989, the Tar Heels won by seven points.
