The North Dakota Fighting Hawks will take on the Elon Phoenix on Thursday at Schar Center. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they’ll have plenty of motivation to get the W here. Things couldn’t have gone much worse for North Dakota as they lost 93-63 to the Pacific Tigers on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Elon ended up a good deal behind the Harvard Crimson when they played on Sunday, losing 92-77.
Matt Norman led the Fighting Hawks with 18 points on 6 of 14 shooting with 5 threes and 4 rebounds while Tsotne Tsartsidze added 12 points on 6 of 11 shooting with a team-high 7 rebounds and B.J. Omot added 11 points to cap off the offense for the Fighting Hawks in the loss. Mitchell Sueker added 7 points and 5 rebounds as well and Jalun Trent added 6 rebounds as well in the loss.
For the Elon Phoenix, Torrence Watson and Sean Halloran each had 14 points with a pair of threes, with Halloran adding a team-high 3 assists and a pair of steals while Watson had a team-high 6 rebounds, which wasn’t that bad of a performance. Max Mackinnon added 12 points with 3 steals and 3 assists and Deandre Smart added 11 points to round out the scoring in double figures for the Phoenix in the loss.
Both teams faced stiffer competition than what they have here, but both are already struggling mightily on the defensive side and both are capable of scoring into the 70s here, giving us a thrilling game to watch. Norman and Watson had quite a few points of their own, though it wasn’t enough to give their respective teams the victory they were looking for in their last games, and only one of them will repeat their last result.
