It’s an encounter between two mid-major teams on the college hardwood when a squad of the MAC faces off against one from the WCC in the Pacific Northwest. The Northern Illinois Huskies are hitting the road as they take a trip to face the Gonzaga Bulldogs Monday night. Northern Illinois got destroyed 84-47 on the road by Idaho in their last outing, getting blown out as the favorites back on December 2.
Northern Illinois got run over by a not-so-good Idaho team on the road in their previous match as they were unable to build off a victory over Eastern Illinois. The Huskies have fallen to a 3-6 record this season so far and now face a major challenge in a ranked foe on the road. Against Idaho, Northern Illinois were leading by four through the first half and was within just two at the 2:50 mark before things started to go south.
Meanwhile, Gonzaga took down Washington 77-60 at home on Friday night though they managed to push back against the spread as they were 17-point favorites heading into that game. This would be the very first time that the two teams have met on the hardwood as Division I rivals.
Gonzaga handled themselves well against Washington at home in their last outing to pick up back-to-back wins. The Bulldogs improved to a 7-3 record on the season and look to make it three in a row by coming out on top. Against Washington, Gonzaga was trailing by five just over the 7:00 mark before outscoring the Huskies 77-60.
The Bulldogs have been sparking up scoreboards this season, racking in an average of 79.9 PPG, which ranks 49th in the nation. Also, Gonzaga picks up 39 rebounds per contest and are posting 15.7 assists per game on the year. The Bulldogs are ranked 274th in defense by allowing the opposition 72.7 points a night.
