Preview & Analysis: Florida Gulf Coast vs Indiana 11-07-2023

Game Preview

Game Preview

To begin the 2023-24 season for both organizations, the FGCU Eagles travel to meet the Indiana Hoosiers for a cross-conference match.

The previous season, Florida Gulf Coast finished 17–15 overall and 7–11 in Atlantic Sun competition. In Patrick Chambers’ inaugural campaign, the Eagles lost 5 games, but this winter, they’ll try to recapture some of that Dunk City magic that characterized the 2010s. Only one three-star guard from Imhotep Institute, Rahmir Barno, was signed by the Eagles. Guard Isaiah Thompson, who ored 14.9 points per contest to lead the team in the previous campaign, is expected to return. Isaiah Thompson is a composed and astute player in the backcourt. Thompson has a knack for energizing his teammates and a fluid outside shooting stroke. Chase Johnston, a senior guard, is about to begin his second campaign with the Eagles. Johnston is a skilled outside sharpshooter who moves all the time to create space even when the ball is not in play.

The previous campaign, Indiana finished 23-12 overall and 12-8 in Big Ten competition. After losing to Miami during the round of 32 to end their season, the Hoosiers will try to improve in third-year head coach Mike Woodson, a previous Knicks coach and IU graduate. It will be a difficult task for Mike Woodson to develop Indiana into a championship challenger this coming season. The previous campaign, Trayce Jackson-Davis averaged 20.9 points per contest and was signed by the NBA. Together with two four-star recruits, the Hoosiers did acquire five-star freshman forward Mackenzie Mgbako, who was ranked as the nation’s tenth best recruit. For the Hoosiers, senior guard Xavier Johnson adds a wealth of talent and experience to the court. It is important to recognize Johnson’s 126 collegiate appearances. The native of Virginia has the speed and agility to routinely get to the hoop.
