The Sam Houston Bearkats will be facing off against the Oklahoma State Cowboys at Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Bearkats are heading into this one after a win while Oklahoma State will be rolling in from a defeat.
The Bearkats couldn’t be stopped at all this past Saturday, as they easily took down the Dallas Christian Crusaders at home 111-58. On the other hand, Oklahoma State fell short against the Connecticut Huskies last Thursday, falling 74-64.
Sam Houston won their first six games of the 2022-23 campaign. Those wins came against Oklahoma, SW Adventist, LeTourneau, Utah, Northern Illinois and South Dakota. Meanwhile, the Bearkats’ first defeat of the season came in game seven versus Nevada.
Fortunately for them, Sam Houston got back into their winning ways on Saturday against Dallas Christian. The Bearkats amassed 67 points in the first half and walked freely to the 111-58 victory. Both Qua Grant and Lamar Wilkerson dropped 16 points each to lead the team.
Now looking at the Oklahoma State side, they hit a 2-2 run out of the gate this year with victories over TX-Arlington and Oakland alongside defeats to Southern IL and UCF. The Cowboys then managed to win their next three over DePaul, Tulsa and Prairie View.
Oklahoma State clashed against UConn last Thursday. They were down 48-31 by the break and couldn’t keep up in a 74-64 defeat despite having a 33-26 second-half advantage. Kalib Boone led his team with 15 points with eight rebounds.
Ultimately, the Bearkats have a few victories this season against overmatched teams, but they’re standing tall against comparable teams as well. They didn’t play that well against Nevada, however, they’ve been putting up points all season with 80 or more points in five of their eight matches.
As for Oklahoma State, they’ve racked in 78 or more in three of their last four outings. They should be able to put up a good total here as well, and we can expect Sam Houston to stay with a cover pace. This is definitely going to be an interesting matchup.
