Tennessee Martin Skyhawks vs Pittsburgh Panthers: Picks & Preview 11/07/2022

Game Preview

Game Preview

The UT Martin Skyhawks and the Pittsburgh Panthers will battle each other today in a college basketball smackdown at the Peterson Events Center.

UT Martin has sadly only won 4 official conference games in the first year under Ryan Ridder’s campaign and professional guidance, but something fans can be happy about is that the team is absolutely showing signs of improvement. Even though they were losing a lot of games they were competitive even against tough opposition like Murray State. Parker Stewart and KJ Simon are back in the active lineup, and will be the stars of this team going forwards. Simon last season averaged 16.9 points while shooting 43 percent from the field. The new addition of KK Curry coming in from South Alabama will give consistency to the roster, he is not only a good offensive player but also a very good defender in the perimeter. Going into this bout, UT Martin needs their defense to be fully focused, and the bench is going to need to step up when needed in rotation.

On the other side of this match is the Pittsburgh Panthers who have Jeff Capel still at the helm but he might be fighting for his job this season. John Hugley IV is back after averaging 14.8 points while shooting 47.1 percent from the field, while also showing up in the defensive end with 7.9 rebounds per game. Hugley is a dominant force inside and is going to need to have a big game here, and a big season going forward if Pittsburgh wants to be successful.

UT Martin is going to be much better this season with this new roster. We expect Stewart and Simon to have big seasons, and that is going to be the difference here as the Skyhawks fight the Panthers.
