The UCLA Bruins, who are ranked 16th, take a trip to College Park where they’ll clash against the 20th ranked Maryland Terrapins. UCLA is heading into this one holding a 8-2 record on the season after picking up five straight victories. Similarly, the Terrapins are 8-2 but are coming into this one with a two-game losing streak in their hand. This Top-25 matchup is definitely going to give us a lot to talk about.
The Bruins are bringing their 8-2 record into Big Ten country to face off against the Maryland Terrapins on Wednesday. UCLA has won its last five games as the team seems to have gotten back to winning ways after two early losses this season. On Saturday, UCLA completely demolished Denver 87-64 while playing at home in another non-conference encounter.
The Bruins were leading by nine at halftime prior to opening the second half with a 17-0 run to pull away from Denver. Jaylen Clark did a great job for the Bruins with 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting, including 2-of-4 three-pointers. Also, Jaime Jaquez Jr. picked up 18 points for his team, scoring on 9-of-11 shots. The Bruins shot 48% as a team and committed 6 turnovers.
Now looking at the Maryland Terrapins, they came out of the gates with a perfect 8-0 record this season but have stumbled since then, losing their last two outings. They were taken down by five at Wisconsin to drop to 1-1 in the Big Ten this season and then ended up dropping a contest to Tennessee in the 2022 Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational on Sunday.
After having a 21 points disadvantage, the Terrapins were fighting back to pull to within two points with under 30 seconds left to play. Unfortunately for Maryland, they couldn’t get over the bump. Jahmir Young scored 18 points in the defeat as he continues to lead the Terps in scoring this season. Against Wisconsin, Maryland shot 33% from the field but did improve to 50% during the second half.
