Army Analysis: Looking to start the season in a good note
The Black Knights just wrapped up a tough season, ending with a 10-22 record and placing 8th in the Patriot League with a 6-12 mark. At home, they managed a 6-11 record, while on the road they struggled with a 4-10 record.
- Offensively, they only averaged 67 points per bout, ranking 270th in the country, but their defense was solid, allowing just 59 points per contest, which put them in the top 100.
- Their shooting wasn’t great either, hitting 44% from the field, but their physicality did shine through on the front court, limiting their opponents to 37% shooting overall and a mere 17% from three point range.
This will be an awful starting matchup for Army, especially with Duke heavily investing in the program this year. We expect the Black Knights to have foul problems as their only way of contesting the Blue Devils is via pure physical contact.
Duke Analysis: The Devils are here
The Blue Devils just wrapped up a solid season with a record of 27-9, placing 2nd in the ACC thanks to a 15-5 mark. They secured a bye to the Quarterfinals but faced a surprising defeat against their in-state rival, NC State.
- In their first game of the new season earlier this week, the Blue Devils dominated Maine at home, winning 96-62.
- They easily found ways to exploit their defense, with the total score exceeding 139 points. Duke’s 96 points ranked 58th in the nation, while they allowed 62 points, which placed them 118th after their first fixture.
Two freshmen were key players for Duke’s offense, as Kon Knueppel topped the scoring with 22 points and grabbed 4 rebounds and forward Cooper Flagg contributed significantly with 18 points. It is fair to say all of our eggs are in Duke’s basket with our NCAAB picks lining up with the Devils.
