The American Eagles will be aiming to further their current seven-game winning streak when they clash against the VMI Keydets on Tuesday. Meanwhile, VMI is enjoying a three-game winning streak after a 77-74 victory over Radford in their last outing.
American has been hitting the road for four of its last five games, including both of its contests from last week, so the Eagles could be dealing with some sort of fatigue heading into this game. Smalls, one of their double-digit players, hasn’t been on the field since mid-November with an undisclosed injury and it’s still unknown if he’ll be playing against VMI.
The Eagles got taken down in their first two games of the 2022-23 season, but they have been red-hot since then. American has won seven games in a row now, including an upset win against Georgetown as heavy underdogs in late November. Then they added another upset win to their book on Saturday, defeating George Washington as 5.5-point underdogs in a 69-64 final score.
Forward Matt Rogers is leading an American lineup with 13 PPG and 5.9 rebounds per game. Forward Johnny O’Neil is setting at 12.6, while junior guard Colin Smalls is scoring 11.7 as well as freshman guard Geoff Sprouse with 11.3. American has managed to cover the spread in every single one of their seven games during its winning streak, while VMI is on a five-game losing streak when playing on the road.
Now looking at the other side, VMI was a 10.5-point underdog in a victory over Navy early December, as Sean Conway dropped 28 points during the match. Their most recent performance was against Radford when they scored a 77-74 upset as the underdogs. Conway is leading the team with 15.9 PPG and 5.8 rebounds, while Asher Woods is scoring 14.6 points of his own, next to Tony Felder Jr. with 11.3 points.
