Game Preview

The NCAA Tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday at 12:15 p.m. ET, featuring a match between the No. 9 seed, West Virginia, and No. 8 seed, Maryland, at Legacy Arena at BJCC in Birmingham. After missing the tournament last year, West Virginia made a comeback this year, performing well in the Big 12 conference and securing their place in the tournament with wins against Pitt, Purdue, Xavier, and Auburn in non-conference games. Despite it being unusual for an eighth-placed team in a 10-team conference to make the tournament, West Virginia has the opportunity to defy the odds and go far.

Meanwhile, Maryland finished the season with three losses in their last four games, but they played tough non-conference games against Miami, Tennessee, and UCLA. They finished with an 11-9 record in the Big Ten, with victories over Penn State, Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, and Northwestern. While they could make it to the Round of 32 and give Alabama a run for their money, they may also lose to an average WVU team on Thursday afternoon.
