The Mountaineers visit West Virginia this Saturday to face Marshall, looking to come back from Week 10’s loss against Coastal Carolina 35-28. Meanwhile, Marshall wants to continue their winning ways after defeating the Old Dominion Monarchs in their visit to Virginia. App State and Marshall are both 5-4 overall in the season, with App State in 4th place and Marshall in 6th place in the Sun Belt Conference’s Group A .
App State is confident that their star QB, Chase Brice, will come to the rescue and help them get the win against Marshall. Brice is the team leader in passing yards (2,200) and in passing TD’s (24) but was very below his normal level last week vs Coastal. The Mountaineers also need their running back Camerun Peoples at his top level, as he’s the team leader in rushing yards (572) and rushing TD’s (5).
True freshman Rece Verhoff made 4-of-5 field-goal attempts and became the sixth kicker in Marshall history with four field goals in a game when the Thundering Herd shut out the Monarchs last week 12-0. Verhoff connected from 33 and 26 yards in the second quarter, 30 in the third and 23 in the fourth with 10:50 remaining. His 42-yard attempt with 6:26 left was blocked. Verhoff is 12-for-17 (70.5%) kicking field goals this season.
The Thundering Herd will be looking for their star QB, Cam Fancher, to throw a bit better than last week, as he was intercepted twice. Still, he gained 136 yards rushing on 18 carries. Marshall outgained Old Dominion 387-209 in total yards and held the ball for more than half the game (38:11). The Thundering Herd is playing at home and is definitely in line to get their 6th win overall in the season and their 3rd win in the Sun Belt Conference.
