Illinois vs Indiana: Predictions & Picks 8/03/2022

Game Preview

The Indiana Hoosiers will play host to the Illinois Fighting Illini at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington to kick things off for the 2022 NCAAF Season. These teams come off a disheartening 2021 season, with both of them finishing on a negative overall record.

In 2021, Indiana couldn’t pick up a single win in the Big Ten, and they finished the regular season on an 8-game losing streak, including a 38-3 defeat to Rutgers, and a 44-7 loss against Purdue to close things out.

After such a tough season, Indiana would release or see the departure of several position coaches, including offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan (who was hired by Washington) and defensive coordinator Charlton Warren.

Micah McFadden would end his 3 year run with the Hoosiers after being picked up by the New York Giants. McFadden was honored as Indiana’s Anthony Thompson Most Valuable Player. This is a huge loss for Illinois, but it’s safe to say that they have something prepared for this upcoming season.

Let’s check the latest NCAAF picks, news, stats, and NCAAF expert picks for Illinois vs Indiana. We’ve plenty of NCAAF predictions for you to consider

Cam Jones’ experience and leadership, coupled with the talented freshman Dasan McCullough and transfer linebackers Bradley Jennings and Jared Casey is where Indiana will start. Head coach Tom Allen said Jones has responded in a huge way to Indiana’s efforts of reversing the program’s momentum after a 2-10 season.

While Indiana is opening up their season with this game, The Fighting Illini will enter the game after a Week 0 encounter versus Wyoming. There are some good aspects of having a Week 0 game, but there are also some downsides too.

Illinois’ Jartavius Martin thinks that being a part of the handful of schools that play a week earlier than everyone else has its perks. “It gives us another bye week to prepare for farther in the season and take better care of our bodies”, stated the Senior defensive back.

The biggest disadvantage for Illinois is that they won’t have a great idea of what Indiana’s new lineup will look like until their encounter. As mentioned before, there are pros and cons to week 0 games, but each team is looking for the pros.
