The Louisville Cardinals take a trip to JMA Wireless Dome to kick off their 2022 NCAAF season against the Syracuse Orange. The last time these two teams met, Louisville didn’t have much trouble against Syracuse as they picked up a stomping 41-3 victory at home.
Last season, the Cardinals finished with a 6-7 record and a 4-4 conference record. Even though Louisville had a decent regular season finish, they were unable to close things in the best manner, losing the First Responder Bowl game 31-28 against the Air Force Falcons.
Now heading into the 2022 season, Louisville’s head coach Scott Satterfield had to make a handful of staff changes during the offseason, and one of them was bringing in Ben Sowders over from Georgia to be their newest strength coach. If we take a look at Syracuse Orange, their 2021 season, nothing spectacular happened as they finished the season 5–7, 2–6 in ACC play to finish in sixth place in the Atlantic Division, and tenth overall in the conference.
Trying to turn things around, they brought in reinforcements to their coaching staff. Robert Anae and Jason Beck were successful with different style quarterbacks at Virginia, but this brings one question to the table, can they turn Garrett Shrader into a true dual-threat quarterback?
Shrader needs to have a strong start this year or else, Syracuse’s head coach Dino Babers will be making his second straight September quarterback change. It’s still hard to know what kind of season Syracuse will have, but this game will definitely set the expectations.
This should be a relatively close game, at least in theory, with it being played at JMA Wireless Dome. But we can’t ignore the past, and that’s why we could expect a Louisville victory over Syracuse.
