On Friday the Louisville Cardinals take a trip to Orlando where they’ll meet up with the UCF Knights at FBC Mortgage Stadium to play their 2nd game of the 2022 NCAAF season. On one hand, UCF opened up their campaign with a very convincing 56-10 win over the South Carolina State Bulldogs at home. And on the other hand, Louisville kicked off the season with a very disappointing 31-7 loss against Syracuse Orange last week. Both teams head into this match in very different forms, making this a very exciting game to watch.
Against the Bulldogs, John Rhys Plumlee led the Knights with 308 yards on 20-of-31 passing (64.5%) for four touchdowns and no interceptions. He also carried the ball 15 times for 86 yards and one rushing touchdown. Isaiah Bowser carried the ball 23 times for 83 yards (3.6 yards per carry) with two touchdowns on the ground. He also had three receptions for 26 yards. Javon Baker had 84 yards on five catches (16.8 per reception) with one touchdown in that game. Once again, UCF is going to attempt to establish the run, that’s Head Coach Gus Malzahn’s offensive philosophy.
Now looking at the other side, Micale Cunningham threw for 152 yards for the Cards against the Orange, going 16-for-22 (72.7%) with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He added 13 carries for 34 yards. Tiyon Evans carried the ball 13 times for 89 yards (6.8 yards per attempt) with one touchdown. In the passing game, he added two catches for two yards. Tyler Hudson caught eight passes on 10 targets for 102 yards (12.8 yards per reception). Even though quarterback Malik Cunningham failed to deliver, as he was picked off twice, there simply needs to be more evidence before passing judgment on the Cardinals.
