Betting Analysis For the Best Matchups in Week 7 of the College Football Season
Upset City
Week six was filled with lots of high-stakes upsets. #9 Missouri no-showed against Texas A&M, amassing just 10 points in a blowout loss. Unranked Vanderbilt hosted #1 Alabama and Diego Pavia led Vandy to one of the biggest upsets in program history, beating Alabama 40-35.
Unranked Arkansas hosted Tennessee and the Razorback’s defense feasted on the Volunteers, as the Razorbacks won 19-14. Safe to say, last weekend was off the rails, and hopefully this week will be a little more tame for our bets’ sake. Let’s go over the best college football bets for week 7. Hopefully, our NCAAF predictions today aren’t as crazy as the games from last week.
Jacksonville State vs. New Mexico State Betting Analysis
The lone FBS game on the slate for Wednesday night in week seven will take us to Jacksonville with the Gamecocks hosting the Aggies. New Mexico State has yet to win a game this season against an FBS opponent, going 0-4 against FBS teams this season. They also haven’t covered in three straight, as quarterback play continues to plague this team.
The Aggies clearly miss Diego Pavia, who just led Vandy to the biggest upset of week six against Alabama, and there is a hole at quarterback for the Aggies. The Aggie’s offense is 130th in FBS, amassing just 4.1 yards per play. They are 132nd in passing yards per game at just 108. While the Gamecock’s defense can tend to struggle at times, this Aggie’s offense is just so bad I don’t see them scoring much.
On the other hand, Jacksonville State has won and covered two straight games as favorites, trouncing Kennesaw State 63-24 and destroying Southern Miss 44-7. Jacksonville State may be 2-3, but they are trending in the right direction behind quarterback Tyler Huff, who leads the team with 445 rushing yards as a dangerous dual-threat quarterback.
This Gamecock’s team is way more potent offensively and their defense has performed well in back-to-back games against lesser opponents, which New Mexico State definitely is as well. The Gamecocks should cover here with another blowout win. My NCAA Football score predictions for this game is Jacksonville State winning 42-17.
Prediction: Jacksonville State -20 (-110)
Iowa vs Washington Betting Analysis
The Saturday college football slate kicks off in Iowa City, as the Hawkeyes host the newcomers to the conference, the Washington Huskies. The Huskies are in a massive letdown spot after beating Michigan 27-17 last week. Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes are coming off a horrible beating against Ohio State, losing 35-7.
These two teams are coming off vastly different games in week six, but Iowa is still a 2.5-point favorite. Quarterback Cade McNamara has the Iowa offense looking the best we have seen in years, as they actually appear to have a pulse with the ball. Aside from last week against a stout Ohio State defense and a team that is now ranked second in the nation, the Hawkeyes scored 31 against Minnesota and 38 against Troy over their last two games.
Washington looked great last week, but Michigan is not the same team that won the championship last season, as they had lots of turnover in the offseason, including their head coach, who left for the NFL along with a lot of their best players, none more important than quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
While Washington had a big win against Michigan, they have struggled to play consistently, losing to Washington State and Rutgers.
One big discrepancy in this game is discipline, as Washington is averaging 70 penalty yards per game, while Iowa is first in the country with only 20 penalty yards per game. Iowa is just the more balanced team that looks good behind McNamara despite a tough game last week against the #2-ranked team in the country. Iowa will bounce back with a win this week.
Prediction: Iowa -2.5 (-110)
