The Cardinals make their in-season debut on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” Wednesday. Expect drama aplenty thanks to their tumultuous season. The Rams reached another level of terrible at Tampa Bay Sunday. They are as beatable as ever at any other point in the Sean McVay Era.
Both these teams are looking bad right now, but the Cardinals have shown some signs of life when they absolutely need it. Kyler Murray should be able to bounce back from his subpar showing in Week 9, even with the Rams having a strong defense.
Tom Brady led a last-minute drive to beat the Rams in Tampa Bay in Week 9, 16-13. Now, LA is 3-5 and is certainly in danger of missing the playoffs a year after winning the Super Bowl. The Cardinals lost to the Seahawks for the second time this season and are 3-6. If things don’t turn around soon, Kliff Kingsbury could be out in Arizona.
Essentially the loser of this game is going to be eliminated from playoff contention. It would be very surprising if the Cardinals could rally from a 3-7 start or the Rams from 3-6. That means we need to keep an eye on the team that is more battle tested and has shown an ability to win close games. It won’t be a playoff like atmosphere because there are no fans in LA, but it could be playoff intensity on the field.
In the Rams 34-11 playoff win over Arizona last season, Murray went 19-for-34 for 137 yards and two interceptions. It was a disastrous performance and there’s no faith in Kingsbury and Murray in big games. The Rams have their problems, but they have blue chip talent all over the field and a Super Bowl pedigree. So, expect the LA Rams to keep the win at home but it’s going to be tough for them to reach the playoffs.
