The first iteration of the heated AFC North rivalry between the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers is going down on Sunday, and it’s a very important point for both teams.
Baltimore is carefully holding first place in the division after the Bengals’ huge win over the weekend. On the other hand we have Pittsburgh, the winners of two in a row and three of its last four games. A victory over the Ravens, who could be without quarterback Lamar Jackson, would further cloud the playoff picture in the conference.
Coach John Harbaugh said Lamar Jackson, who left Sunday’s match against Denver with a knee injury, is “days to weeks” from making a comeback. In response to the injury, Baltimore picked up Brett Hundley to its practice squad to back up Tyler Huntley, who will be starting in place of Jackson.
The last couple of weeks have been somewhat difficult for Jackson and the Ravens offense. Even though they rank 12th in scoring at 23.8 ppg, they have just 51 total points throughout their last three games and were severely limited against Denver and the Panthers.
Now looking at the Steelers, their offense has finally come back to live in the last four weeks. They averaged better than 23 ppg on their 3-1 run, compared with 17.8 for the season, which is the fifth-fewest in the league. Rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett hasn’t thrown an interception in any of the last four games, and the rushing attack, led by Najee Harris, has also been looking better.
Their defense is home to some of the league’s top players. Similar to their offense, its season-long numbers tell a different story than the last few matches. For the season, the Steelers allowed more than 23 ppg, but they’ve held three out of their last four opponents to less than 20 points.
