We’re approaching Week 17 of the 2022 NFL season, which means there aren’t many more chances for teams to try to make the playoffs. It’s also important to note that despite having several strong playmakers, the Commanders’ offensive problems have often hindered the defense’s performances this season. Their offense is frustratingly inconsistent, occasionally displaying a strong running game and the capacity to make outrageous passing gains. But it’s so erratic that their identity is frequently best characterized as random.
Now looking at the other side, Deshaun Watson’s addition on the active roster was intended to strengthen the Browns’ offense, but rather than doing that, it has only raised questions about the future of head coach Kevin Stefanski. 57.7% of Watson’s passes have been completed for an average of 175.8 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions in his four games played in bad weather.
We could have anticipated Watson to have some issues, and not all of the team’s problems can be attributed to his erratic performance. After all, in their devastating Week 16 loss to New Orleans, the Browns missed three touchdowns. While integrating Watson into an offense that had a sound game plan with Jacoby Brissett in the lineup, Stefanski was unable to preserve the team’s dominant rushing game, which is extremely troubling for Stefanski’s own future.
