On each side of their Week 6 bye, things have been pretty ugly the Detroit Lions. They have been outscored 53-6 by the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys, as the league’s highest-scoring offense through the first four weeks has fallen off big time–albeit against a couple tough defenses on the road.
The Lions will welcome a return home to Ford Field in Week 8, and the 4-3 Miami Dolphins are the opponent. The Dolphins were 3-0, then they lost three in a row before beating the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7. Tua Tagovailoa was back under center for them last week, and Miami has plenty of talent around him to challenge a Lions’ defense that has shown improvement the last couple games.
The Lions’ defense will have a greater challenge in Week 8 than they’ve had in their last two games, assuming Tagovailoa shook off his rust in last week’s game as the Steelers’ secondary kept dropping interceptions. The Dolphins’ defense has underachieved this season, so it looks like a rebound opportunity for Jared Goff and the Lions’ offense.
This Thursday, the Miami Dolphins held another practice in anticipation of their Sunday afternoon meeting with the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. Only punter Thomas Morstead (illness) didn’t participate in practice on Thursday. It seems like Miami has had at least one person dealing with an illness each week. Left guard Liam Eichenberg (knee) was the lone full participant listed on Thursday with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (left hand) removed completely.
Detroit is 1-5 on the year, but they had been in every game prior to the last two weeks where they’d been outscored 53-6. Former Dolphins interim head coach Dan Campbell leads the Lions into this contest, and if he continues down the road that their organization is on this year, there’s a chance that he doesn’t make it to a third season.
