New England Patriots vs Miami Dolphins: Odds & Picks 6/17/2022

June 17, 2022

Last season saw something that hadn’t happened in years. The Miami Dolphins, usual victims to the New England Patriots managed to beat New England not once, but twice in their divisional matchups, leading to Miami sweeping their yearly series against the Patriots for the first time since many, many NFL fans can remember. This upcoming season, with a Miami Dolphins team that hit the free agency market and draft in a masterful way, something not usually expected from the Dolphins, all signs point towards Miami gearing up for what could be a season in which they become Buffalo’s main concern in the AFC East. Now, with the Dolphins and Patriots linking up in Miami for week 1 of the 2022 NFL season, will it be a win for the ‘Fins or will Belichick and company take their first road win of the season from so early on?

Game Preview

If you’re a Miami Dolphins fan, let us start this off by saying congratulations. For the first time in years, the Dolphins can brag about having one of the most balanced and all-around great rosters in the AFC. In what can be taken as a slow, but surely effective rebuilding process that Miami has gone through for quite some time, it’s starting to feel more and more like the Dolphins are finally reaching their sweet spot. While already having a defensive core that had for a few seasons now become the backbone of this team’s successes, small or big, it’s their offense now that has turned into a core that could turn into serious trouble for any and all opposing defenses this season, starting with the Pats defensive line in Week 1.

With the addition of Tyreek Hill as WR 1 next to Jaylen Waddle, QB Tua Tagovailoa looking as ready as ever to prove all of his haters wrong after having to deal over and over again with criticisms regarding his leadership and football skills and a RB core with the likes of Raheem Mostert, Chase Edmonds, Myles Gaskin and former Patriot Sony Michel, this offense reads like it could easily become one of the absolute best units in the AFC if they can all come together and start synching from the start of the season. Oh yeah, and don’t forget about TE Mike Gesciki as well to round out again what can easily become one of the toughest offenses to face for any team in the NFL.

If the Dolphins can make it to week 1 with this offense playing as good as their defense usually does, then score an easy win for Miami here, without regards to what the Patriots can do.

For Bill Belichick and the Patriots last season proved that drafting Mac Jones to become the
franchise QB for the future was a great idea. The former Alabama QB showed he has all the tools to go head to head in the NFL against any opposing defense and in his second season in the league, it’s expected for him to break out and truly begin to shine with the Pats offense. Still, while Jones is a good QB, there is no real comparison between his team and Miami.

A loss should be expected for NE here, that is unless Bill Belichick pulls out one of his typical Obi Wan style football strategies, but if that doesn’t happen, the Patriots are not leaving Miami with a win.
