The Tennessee Titans journey for a third straight division title begins on Sunday at MetLife Stadium with a Week 1 matchup against the visiting New York Giants. The team coming as one of the biggest favorites on Sunday is the Tennessee Titans. They finished 12-5 last season and now play host to the New York Giants, who went 4-13. Both teams made some significant changes in the offseason. The Titans rebuilt their receiving corps, while the Giants reconstructed their coaching staff.
The Giants are hoping that a new coaching staff can get this offense and team back on track. Success in 2022 hinges on growth from quarterback Daniel Jones, who so far has looked nowhere near capable of leading a team to the playoffs. The main concern for the Giants is that they still look like they have lots of holes on the roster. Kadarius Toney looks like a quality wideout but who can deliver consistently behind him? Who helps at tight end? Is the offensive line any better? Is the linebacking corps going to harden in the center of the defense?
If the Titans are going to pick up a victory in Week 1, they’ll be looking at their offense and running back Derrick Henry. He ran for 2,027 yards in 2020 and still finished eighth in the NFL in rushing last season despite only playing in eight games. Now he’ll be up against a Giants defense that allowed the eighth-most rushing yards per game at 129 last season.
The Titans have given quarterback Ryan Tannehill a pair of new receivers to work with in free agent pickup Robert Woods as well as rookie Treylon Burks. That should help Tannehill a lot. He threw 14 interceptions last year as his receiving corps fell apart. If the running game is powering along and Tannehill does have better weapons to work with, winning and covering in this spot shouldn’t be a problem.
