Game Preview
On Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders will travel across the country to face off against the Buffalo Bills. After beating the Broncos on the road in Week 1, the Raiders find themselves with a perfect record. The Raiders are the only AFC West team to have a winning record after week one.
The Buffalo Bills are winless after a week after surrendering a lead and needing overtime to lose to the New York Jets. Even when Aaron Rodgers left the game for the Jets, the Bills were unable to capitalize due to Josh Allen’s poor performance.
In week one, the Las Vegas Raiders had a huge victory. Not a nice victory, but a victory nonetheless for the Raiders. Jimmy Garoppolo, the team’s new quarterback, threw for two touchdowns and finished with 200 yards for Las Vegas. His primary focus was on Jakobi Meyers, who suffered a concussion and had to leave the game. Meyers won the game by totaling 200 yards and scoring twice.
The ground game was a weakness for the Raiders. After 19 carries, Josh Jacobs, who led the NFL in rushing yards a year ago, had only 48 yards. In the first week of the season, the Raiders ranked last in the NFL in running yards, with 28.
When Week 3 rolls around, Las Vegas will play this game and then return home to face the Pittsburgh Steelers. The fourth week of the season features a road game for the Raiders against a division rival, the Los Angeles Chargers. If the Las Vegas Raiders want to win against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2, their offensive numbers will need to improve.
The outcome of the game was possibly the worst letdown for the Buffalo Bills. Even though they were up and had sent Aaron Rodgers out after only four plays, the Bills still ended up losing in overtime to the New York Jets.
Josh Allen had a rough game overall, committing three turnovers while also being sacked five times. Later in the fourth quarter, the Jets got the ball back when he fumbled. Allen’s poor performance in Week One effectively ended his chances of increasing his NFL MVP odds..
