Panthers Analysis: Struggling on offense and defense
The Panthers, on the other hand, also had a rather uneventful opening few preseason games. Carolina dropped games against the Jets (15-12) and Patriots (17-3). But the Panthers prevailed 31–26 against the Bills in the exhibition game. When the Panthers faced the Saints on Sunday, they were behind 30-3 going into the locker room. After that, Carolina gave up 17 more points in a 47-10 rout. In the loss, quarterback Bryce Young gained 161 yards and a pair of interceptions. Adam Thielen had 3 receptions for 49 yards, while Miles Sanders led the rushers with 5 rushes for 22 yards. Regarding their first defeat, there aren’t many encouraging aspects to mention. The Panthers managed just 193 total yards (135 passing), committed three turnovers, and were just 1-of-10 on third downs.
Chargers Analysis: Hoping for another good defensive performance
During their first few preseason games, Los Angeles didn’t exactly create a big impression. The Chargers were defeated 16-3 by the Seahawks and 13-9 by the Rams. But the game against the Cowboys in the finale was different; LA won 26-19 to prevent an exhibition sweep. The Chargers took on the Raiders in their first regular season game. After three quarters, LA had a narrow 9-7 edge in that one. From there, the Chargers tallied 13 and won 22–10. QB Justin Herbert gained 144 yards and a touchdown in the end. With 10 rushes for 135 yards and a touchdown, JK Dobbins spearheaded the rushing onslaught. While LA’s offensive numbers were disappointing, they did look quite good in the latter stages of their victory against the Raiders last weekend. The Chargers completed 4 of 15 third-down attempts for a paltry 316 yards total (140 passing), with 11 first downs.
