On Thursday, a pair of struggling NFC teams will meet when the Washington Commanders travel to Soldier Field, where they’ll clash against the Chicago Bears. The Commanders have lost four consecutive games since winning their season opener, while Chicago is on a two-game skid. These teams have not met since 2019, when Chicago notched a 31-15 road win.
The Commanders have been a mediocre offensive team this season, ranked No. 19 in the NFL in yards per game at 341.6. Wentz has completed 62.9% of his passes for 1,390 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. His top target has been wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who has caught 19 passes for 326 yards and a score.
Wide receiver Curtis Samuel has added 32 catches for 281 yards and two touchdowns. The rushing attack has not been able to generate much success, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry. They are facing a Chicago defense that is No. 22, allowing 367.2 yards per game.
Meanwhile, Chicago desperately needs to get back on track this week, as its season could be going up in flames. The Bears picked up an impressive win over San Francisco in Week 1 and added a 23-20 win over Houston in Week 3, but they are coming off back-to-back losses to the Giants and Vikings since then.
They were able to overcome a slow start against Minnesota, which raced out to a 21-3 lead midway through the second quarter. Chicago proceeded to score 19 consecutive points to take a 22-21 advantage with 9:26 remaining, but Minnesota scored a touchdown with 2:26 remaining to escape with a win.
For the Bears, Running back Khalil Herbert has been the bright spot offensively, averaging 5.9 yards per carry on 56 attempts. They will need him to get going against a Washington defense that is allowing 345.6 yards per game, that’s if they want to have a clear shot at winning this game.
