The Carolina Hurricanes are looking to go big at home once again in the 2nd game of their playoff series against Metropolitan divisional rivals New York Rangers today. After securing the first win in the series in a hard fought 2-1 OT win the Hurricanes are sure of one thing, losing is definitely not an option here, especially since the first game showed that New York is not playing around whatsoever and will be poised to go out for a commanding game 2 win before going back to Madison Square Garden for the next legs of the series. So, the question here is, is Carolina ready for a Rangers team who are hungrier than ever for a win?
We can all agree that the New York Rangers outplayed and outskated the Carolina Hurricanes in game one, right? Ok, now that that is out of the way, and even though Carolina took game one, it’s more than clear that if they want to take down New York they seriously need to put their foot on the gas against the Rangers today.
Beating a defensive line like New York’s, with goalie Igor Shesterkin at the helm is never an easy task. Now, as they go after their sixth straight home win in the playoffs this season, Carolina needs to double down on all of their lines.
While their defensive line stood tall and strong against New York’s attacking core, it’s their offense that needs to wake up and catch the smoke around them. Easily put, today’s game could very well mark what ends up happening to this team moving forward in the series. Sebastian Aho, Carolina’s leader on offense needs to play his best hockey today, no if’s, and’s or but’s about it, because a loss cannot be afforded here whatsoever.
For the Rangers, a team who saw their home ice advantage slip out of their hands in favor of Carolina in the last week of the regular season, the loss in game 1 means one thing and one thing only, it’s time to bring it in Carolina to secure some sort of advantage when taking this series back to Manhattan.
From Igor Shesterkin all the way to Chris Kreider up top, the Rangers need to not just win today, but make that win as commanding as possible to truly send Carolina into a spiral as they head back up north east. If the Rangers manage to score a win today, that could very well end up becoming a defining point in the series, but all that starts as soon as the puck hits the ice today.
