Wolverhampton, or Wolves as they’re more commonly known by soccer fans, have once again made this season another stellar one for the team as they are lodged at 8th place in the standings and in a constant battle to try and squeeze their way into the Europa League qualifying spots of the EPL rankings. Burnley on the other hand, they are in a completely different battle of their own as the constant fear of relegation continues to haunt them. Now, while one team is looking to continue in their winning ways to secure yet another season of European football, the other is looking more into finding any way possible to save themselves from being demoted, which automatically makes this Sunday’s Burnley vs. Wolves matchup a great game to keep an eye on.
Gone are the days in which Wolverhampton Wanderers, aka Wolves were a team looking to find any way possible to stay in the EPL rather than competing for a chance to play in Europe’s club tournaments. But times have changed and with it so has the level of talent and soccer that Wolves have been displaying. Even after taking a loss against Newcastle in their last EPL match, Wolves are still looking like one of the strongest mid-card squads around and with a point difference of only 8 points between 8th and 5th place, Arsenal, Man United and West Ham are all praying and hoping that Wolves manage to have a slip up here or there in the handful of games that remain in the season.
But Bruno Lange’s team doesn’t look like they’re in any way, shape or form ready to give up their fight for a top 6 finish. After losing Mexican striker Raul Jimenez to a red card against Leeds United a couple of games back, all signs point towards Jimenez making his return to the Wolves 11 this weekend against Burnley, even though Fabio Silva did do a very decent job at the striker position. At the end of the day it will be Lange who makes the final call on who plays, but what’s for sure is that both strikers can put up some very good performances when needed.
Burnley on the other hand will be hoping that their win against Southampton of 2-0 can end up becoming the perfect fuel to get the fire roaring within the squad as they try to steer away from relegation. It’s clear that in a battle as tightly knitted as the one at the bottom of the EPL’s standings there is absolutely no room for mistakes, which is why securing a positive result at home against Wolves would end up doing wonders for a Burnley team hoping not to fall victims to relegation.
