A disappointing Everton team will host mid-table Crystal Palace at Goodison Park next Saturday. Everton are coming off a 1-0 loss to Newcastle, which makes this their third consecutive loss in the League. Meanwhile, Palace was able to defeat Wolves 2-1 at home, making it their third straight game without losing, after drawing in their visit to Leicester and defeating Leeds at home.
Everton had a very stressful 2021/22 season as they went into relegation issues. They were able to avoid Championship football by 4 points, but it was a very disappointing Premier League run for a team that doesn’t have a bad squad at all. Going into 2022/23, they hoped for a better start, however, they’re currently in 15th place in the league after only being able to win 2 games (West Ham and Southampton), draw 4 and lose 5.
The off season signings haven’t been up to the challenge, as Everton signed center-backs James Tarkowski (Burnley) and Conor Coady (Wolves), left wing Ruben Vinagre (Sporting Lisboa), midfielders Amadou Onana (LOSC Lille), James Garner (Manchester United) and Idrissa “Gana” Gueye (PSG); as well as forwards Dwight McNeil (Burnley) and Neal Maupay (Brighton). Manager Frank Lampard will need to work extra hours for his team to get back on track and avoid another battle at the bottom of the table this season.
Crystal Palace, on the other hand, sit mid-table after a pretty dull season that’s seen them win 3, draw 4 and lose another 3. They look to be imitating last seasons record, when they won 11, drew 15 and lost 12, for a pretty boring 12th place. Palace only brought in 4 players for this season, goalkeeper Sam Johnstone (West Brom), center back Chris Richards (Bayern Munich), midfielder Cheick Doucoure (RC Lens) and right-wing Malcolm Ebiowei (Derby County).
Everton should take advantage of their stadium and look for their third win of the season, in order to start getting into their best form; however, Palace want to start showing their fans that they don’t want another dull season.
