Bologna and Fiorentina kick off their 6th match of their 2022-23 Serie A campaign on Sunday at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. This is going to be an exciting match because we have to take into account the potential effect of a new manager, as no wins from the opening five games brought the sacking of Siniša Mihajlović this week.
It wasn’t the most popular decision of all time, but Bologna sacked Siniša Mihajlovic after the 2-2 draw away at Spezia last week and will now face Fiorentina with a first win of the season a priority for whoever takes charge.
It was the Marko Arnautović show once again in that last game, with the Austrian striker scoring both goals to take his personal tally to five. Riccardo Orsolini also tested the Spezia keeper on a number of occasions.
Now it will be interesting to see how the Rossoblu starts against Fiorentina. Mihajlović had been the manager since 2019 and this has been very much his team, even with his battles against leukemia. Bologna will have to learn to play for a new man in charge.
Vincenzo Italiano would probably have wished that his Fiorentina players had got the chance to play against Bologna last week rather than face the ideas of a new head coach. He will also be wondering how his side failed to pick up a rare win against Juventus last weekend.
The Viola went behind early on but managed to get back into the game, thanks to a good goal from Christian Kouamé. But Luka Jović missed a first half penalty and then the heroics of Perin in the Juve goal kept the game all square.
That should be regarded as a good result for Fiorentina. But it does mean that they have still only won one game this season and will come into this one after playing an extra game in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
