On Saturday, Bologna take a trip to San Siro Stadium, where they’ll meet Milan to play the 3rd game of their 2022-23 Serie A campaign. Milan were unable to repeat the goalscoring feats of the opening day win over Udinese at the weekend when they were held to a 1-1 draw away at Atalanta. The result was probably deserved as the two sides balanced each other throughout.
Though there will be little concern for Stefano Pioli as a point away to a European regular should be considered a good result. He may want his attacking players to be a little more precise though, as there were chances to win the game. Pioli is still resisting the opportunity to use Giroud in the absence of Ibrahimović though – and should be pleased with the way that Rafael Leão has laughed off criticism of his performances in the first two weeks of the season.
Bologna were able to pick up their first point of the season against Hellas Verona on Sunday, although VAR took away the three points that the Rossoblu thought they had won after Orsolini was pulled back for an offside before he finished off a fine move. That was Bologna’s first point of the season and getting anything from a trip to the San Sir will be tough.
Orsolini was a danger throughout the game and will be sorely missed by Siniša Mihajlović after he picked up a straight red card for a dangerous high-foot challenge towards the end of the game. Main man Marko Arnautović will now have an even more important role at the San Siro. It has been a relatively tough start to the season for Bologna. While there is still hope that they are able to pick up more than one point from their first three fixtures, that doesn’t seem too likely at the current time.
