Game Preview

Tunisia and Australia lock horns in the second round of matches for Group D on Saturday. The Africans were able to draw 0-0 against Denmark in matchday 1, while Australia lost against current World Champion, France.

Before a stadium filled almost entirely with Tunisia’s crazy red-shirted fans, midfielder Aïssa Laïdouni set the tone in the very first minute when he hit emblematic Denmark playmaker Christian Eriksen and stripped him of the ball with an aggressive sliding tackle, then stood up and pumped his arms menacingly, gesturing to the crowd to get even more crazy than they already were. This is going to set the tone for Tunisia’s World Cup participation this year.

Tunisia likely deserved more from the match but an amazing save shortly before halftime by goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel helped Denmark keep the draw. Having already gone down to the grass after Tunisia broke through the defense,

Schmeichel stuck his hand up to deflect a shot from Issam Jebali, who plays his team ball in Denmark for Odense. It’s possible that Tunisia deserved more from the match against Denmark, but they’ll surely want to show the world what they’re capable of against the Socceroos.

Australia started on a positive note against France, an early goal put them in front. However, the World Champion is a great team, with amazing individual players and in about 5-6 minutes, Rabiot and Giroud scored and turned the tables on the Australians, leaving them with no chance to react. The French went on to win the match 4-1.

This Saturday’s game will definitely be a close one; Tunisia definitely gave us some things to look forward to, but also, Australia went up against the world champ and didn’t do half bad. The Africans will rely on their speed on the offensive end of play, while the Australians will stick to their strong defensive play and try to counterattack to come out on top.
