The UFC returns to Las Vegas’ Apex on Saturday for a co-main event featuring two middleweights looking to build momentum. Albert Duraev and Jun Yong Park both enter this bout having won their last contest, though it remains too early to predict whether either will crack into the top 15 of their division. Both men have shown promise recently; winning this fight would go a long way toward solidifying their spots among top contenders in this division.
Since signing a deal on DWCS, Albert Duraev, an experienced fighter with a record of 16-4, is currently 2-1 in the UFC. His lone defeat came in a fight versus Joaquin Buckley that had to be stopped by a doctor after Buckley’s eye swollen shut. After a nail-biting split decision triumph against Chidi Njokuani, Duraev recovered and will want to carry that energy into this contest. Duraev has a 75-inch reach and is 5’11” tall.
Duraev bounced back strongly from his initial loss against Joaquin Buckley by defeating Chidi Njokuani at UFC Fight Night: Vera vs. Sandhagen last March, thanks to his formidable wrestling abilities which saw him tie Njokuani before taking all the shots that the Nigerian American threw his way, ultimately earning a split decision victory for himself.
Junyong Park has a professional record of 16-5 and a 6-2 record since entering the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2019. Since his arrival, he has proven quite active and has won 3 contests in a row going into this one. He has a record of 6-1 over the course of his previous 7 fights and has won his past 2 matches via back-to-back submissions. In a tight contest with Duraev, he will be the small favorite as he pursues his 4th straight triumph. Park has a 73-inch reach and is 5’10” tall.
Duraev appears well-suited to grappling, and his ground game effectiveness will be critical when facing Park who hasn’t been knocked out yet in five career fights. Aside from taking strikes well, Park also excels at clinching and scrambling as evidenced by winning six out of his last seven fights.
