Jalin Turner and Bobby Green will meet for the first time this Saturday at UFC Austin for their five-round co-main event MMA bout, in a five-round co-main event that used to feature Dan Hooker. Turner accepted his fight on short notice after Hooker sustained a broken arm; initially turning down this opportunity before getting another call from UFC brass, who persuaded him to accept.
Turner still possesses an intriguing skill set in the Octagon. Fitting into his lighter weight class perfectly, “The Tarantula” stands as a quick, durable striker who can cause major damage with their length and reach advantage.
Turner excels at throwing his opponents off balance with crisp jabs followed by stiff crosses to unbalance them and open up for hard shots. Additionally, Turner is an effective finisher with three of six UFC finishes coming via submission; these skills helped him quickly advance in his career and will prove critical against Green who boasts both striking power and an effective grappling game.
Turner is one-spot lower on Green’s ranking list but boasts much more experience as an UFC fighter. However, in recent times he has struggled against Dan Hooker and Mateusz Gamrot through split decisions. Both decisions were controversial defeats for Green who is looking to rebound quickly in this competitive lightweight division.
Both fighters are long and rangy strikers, with Green being the more skilled and deadly competitor. He averages 5.82 significant strikes per minute with deadly accuracy; his quick hands and southpaw angles can easily overpower opponents; plus his lightning quick hands allow for immediate scoring power that has caused plenty of damage over his career. Green’s takedown defense only sees 55% success rate during attempts – this may limit his success as an opponent has taken down other fighters against Green at times.
Green’s superior striking power and natural advantages may prove too much for Turner to handle. He may attempt to disrupt Green’s timing with ranged attacks or use his length to avoid clinching; but for any chance at victory Turner may need an early stoppage or face an unlikely close decision loss against an opponent of equal rank since beating Hooker back in 2021.
