Muslim Salikhov Analysis: Still fighting at 40 years old
Since Ponzinibbio’s previous fight, Salikhov (19-5, 6-4 in the UFC) has fought more frequently but has not had any more success. Salikhov has suffered two defeats. Salikhov started his UFC career 5-1, but since 2022 he has only gone 1-3. He most recently lost by knockout to Randy Brown at UFC Vegas 85. Unfortunately, Muslim Salikhov’s latest battle ended in a loss to Randy Brown, a taller, more athletic fighter. Salikhov will face a physically equivalent opponent in this battle, despite his issues with distance control versus longer opponents. Salikhov, a 40-year-old former kickboxing champion, is still driven and passionate about fighting. Though his reaction time and speed have decreased, his power and defense are still very much intact.
Santiago Ponzinibbio Analysis: First fight of the year
Although Ponzinibbio (29-7, 11-6 in the UFC) has only faced top competition, he is just 2-4 since recovering from an injury in 2021. On July 13, Ponzinibbio will make his return. It has been more than a year since he lost to Kevin Holland via third-round knockout at UFC 287. Santiago Ponzinibbio, who has been underperforming by his standards lately, is frantically searching for another victory. It’s obvious the UFC is attempting to test him to see if he can rise back up the ranks because he has been up against some really tough competition lately. Ponzinibbio has a strong defensive game and strikes the ball with great balance. Since his opponent is an experienced kickboxer, he will need to remain vigilant, but if Ponzinibbio can make effective use of his movement, he should have the upper hand.
